What is an Evidential Medium? How Spirit Communication Really Works.
A medium is someone who can communicate with the spirit world. There are several ways in which a medium can serve. This article will explore what mediums do and how they can support you on your journey with grief.
The “evidential” part of the term “evidential medium” is what differentiates it from other types of intuitive work, such as psychic readings. Evidential means that the medium brings forward specific, validating information from a loved one in Spirit to share with the living loved one—information the medium would have no ordinary way of knowing. During an evidential medium reading, the medium connects with your loved ones in Spirit (sometimes referred to as The Other Side) through intuitive senses to deliver both evidence and messages.
From Scared to Sacred
Mediumship is the act of communicating with the spirit world through a living person. Because it is connected to death, many people feel uneasy about it. In Western culture, mediumship is often misunderstood or misrepresented.
Hollywood frequently portrays mediums in frightening or sensationalized ways, which does not reflect the experience of most evidential mediums. By sharing more about mediumship, my intention is to help shift the perception from something scary to something sacred—because at its core, it is a sacred act of love, connection, and healing.
The Spirit World Does Exist: It’s Where We Come From, and Where We Return To
I once felt skeptical about mediumship, even though I had experienced two profound visits from my grandparents in Spirit.
In one instance, I had a vivid and realistic dream of my deceased grandfather. He told me that my grandmother would be dying soon, but not to worry—he would be there to greet her, and she would be fine. Two months later, my grandmother died unexpectedly. At the time, I dismissed it as coincidence.
On another occasion, I sensed the presence of that same grandmother visiting me. She shared a message that there would be death in my family, but again reassured me not to worry, as she would be there for them. I did not know who “they” were and wondered if it was simply my imagination, especially during a time of heightened fear in 2020.
Two months later, my only child died unexpectedly shortly after her 26th birthday. Three weeks later, my mother also died unexpectedly.
I was devastated. More than anything, I needed to know that my daughter, Keira, was okay—and to feel some form of connection with her. Her passing was sudden and deeply shocking, and I longed for reassurance that she was safe and at peace.
While the earlier experiences with my grandparents suggested that there is life after death—and even that death may be part of a larger spiritual plan—I still needed deeper, undeniable confirmation that Keira was okay.
Signs From Loved Ones
After Keira’s passing, something extraordinary began to happen. I started receiving signs from her.
One day, I was driving to the funeral home to deliver photos and select music for her tribute video. I needed to choose two songs but could only decide on one. As I backed out of my garage, all the preset radio stations in my car turned to static. I pulled over and began scanning, and only one station came through clearly.
The song playing took my breath away. It was “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses—the song that had always reminded me of Keira since she was a baby. In that moment, I knew she was guiding me to use that song for her tribute.
I experienced many other signs, and while I felt in my heart that they were real, my mind still questioned whether I was imagining them. Some might have found these experiences to be enough proof of the afterlife, but I still wanted more certainty. Having spent decades working as a business executive in a fact-based, data-driven business world, I felt compelled to seek clearer validation.
This led me to begin researching after-death communication and mediumship in depth.
Evidential Mediumship
Before I booked an evidential medium reading, I began training as an evidential medium myself to better understand how it works.
An evidential medium is someone who connects with a loved one in Spirit and provides specific evidence that allows the living person to recognize and validate that connection. In addition to evidence, messages of love, reassurance, and healing are shared.
What drew me to evidential mediumship is that it reduces subjectivity. When a medium shares details they could not have known—such as personality traits, shared memories, or specific experiences—it becomes much more meaningful and validating than general messages.
I eventually had readings with several different evidential mediums who did not know me. In each session, I received clear, specific evidence and deeply healing messages that confirmed Keira was safe, happy, and still connected to me. The relief and peace that came from this validation were profound.
As in any field, not all mediums are the same. Some are more developed in their abilities than others. Some may approach the work differently. As an evidential medium myself, I hold this work as sacred. To me, it is a path of service rooted in healing, integrity, and deep respect for both the living and those in Spirit.
The loss of a loved one can be one of the most difficult experiences a person will face. Mediumship can profoundly influence how someone grieves—and how they continue living after loss.
More Proof of the Afterlife
As I continued developing my ability, I also continued deepening my relationship with Keira. Learning to connect with her and experience our ongoing bond became an essential part of my healing.
Eventually, I began offering practice readings as part of my advanced training. Through this, I discovered two meaningful things.
First, I experienced Keira as a guide in my work. She helps facilitate communication between Spirit and the living, supporting the delivery of evidence and messages. It feels deeply aligned with who she was in life—she loved languages and was studying to become an interpreter. In many ways, she continues that role now, helping translate love between worlds.
Second, I realized that although I had never set out to become a medium, I am one. The connections, messages, and evidence I’ve been able to share have brought profound healing—not only to others, but also to me. Each reading reinforces the truth that our loved ones in Spirit are still with us, and that the Other Side is real.
Be Your Own Medium
While receiving a reading from an evidential medium can be deeply comforting and validating, I also believe that you can develop your own connection with your loved ones in Spirit.
This may involve learning to gently move through grief, developing your intuitive senses, and understanding how communication with Spirit works—but it is possible. Resources and guidance on my website can support you in this process.
